Genjitsu Karate

We are a practical martial arts school based in Swindon, Wiltshire, UK offering classes for adults only.

Our training is geared towards self-defence and personal protection in the 'real world' rather than the competitive arena. Our syllabus is rooted in Shotokan Karate, one of the most popular martial arts in the world. In addition to the medium-range punches and kicks most commonly associated with modern Karate, we explore broader practical Karate skills such as grappling, joint locking, throwing, close-quarter defence, ground defence and defence against armed opponents to build a comprehensive practical skill set.

For experienced Karate practitioners, we offer an avenue to explore the more practical aspects of Karate through study of kata bunkai (application).

We also look beyond physical self-defence techniques, equipping our students with the skills required to avoid, escape or defuse dangerous situations, and knowledge of the legal and ethical implications of self-protection. This enables our students to make sound decisions about how to respond to potential threats, to prioritise safety and avoid violence where possible, and to follow through with appropriate and effective action if necessary.

We aim to make our classes as rewarding as they are challenging and provide an environment in which everyone is supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

As well as long term students we welcome visitors from other clubs, styles and disciplines at every level.
